Notes for William S Stewart
This is the William that appears on the 1900 census living at 46 Greenwood Place with his mat ernal grandmother Mary Murray, my grandfather George and E. Belle his older sister. My cousi n Mary Stewart has a graduation certificate for a William Stewart that graduated from Buffal o Grade School # 45 on June 1 st. 1901. So that would be consistent with someone born in 1886 .

The 1880 William George is RIN 157 . On 9 Oct 2002 I picked up his death certificate atBuffalo City Hall. It states he was a resident of Buffalo for 18 years which means he could have been born elsewhere. He was single and a machinist. Lived at 46 Greenwood Place in fact my grandfather George Reed Stewart was the informant on the death cert.

Cause of death was Phthis is which per Roget's the New Thesaurus means an infectious disease producing lesions esp. of the lungs. No longer in scientific use AKA tuberculosis, white plague. Contributing factor acute nephritis ( liver failure ). Died at 6:30 PM. E=JLS S= JLS

William George Stewart is my grandfather's brother ; I'm listing his birth information per the 1880 census ( the only document he is mentioned on ) where he is listed as being born within that year and in March his age is listed as 3/12 th. in other words 3 months old. He was bo rn in Buffalo most likely at 184 Sixth Street and and I am assuming that he was named after his father. Assuming he lived to age 76 like his brother George he would have died in 1956. In Oct 2000 I searched the SSDI and found a William Stewart born 1 Apr 1880 died Feb 1947 S S # 086-16-8687 that might be him but after seeing the 1900 census I'm not so sure! I need to request that record from the SSA. Sent for SS-5 on 6 Nov 2001 ; received it on 15 Dec 200 1 and it is not the William Stewart I was looking for. I am also wondering about the date of birth or exactly what could explain the facts that there is a William George listed on th e 1880 census as 3/12 or 3 months old born in March and on the 1900 census he is listed as 13 and born in April ! The most logical explanation is that there were two William STEWART's one born in 1880 and one in 1886. The next obvious conclusion is that William George did not l ive very long. E=JLS.
