William "Billy" Mitchell- second cousin of Elizabeth Murray Houck was a colonel in WWI. He said planes were not safe, People would be flying the nation, Also said that Japan would attack us. As a result of his predictions he was court Marshaled in 1925. But years later the things he was punished for saying proved to be right. I have been unable to confirm 2nd cousin relationship but his father and a William Murray are on the same census page for tha 1860 census.

According to family lore Frank Sr. changed the spelling of the family name from Hauck to Houck during World War I. Family story claims that this was done to sound less German and that it was not done legally. This story is suspect since a 1856 map of Eden shows house amd property belonging to U. Houck. The house is at the end of a long dead end lane in far North East corner of Eden and is still in the hands of a direct desendant of the original Houcks.

Frank Sr. liked Saltbox Cod and News on the radio. He lived with his daughter Margaret. Margaret traveled frequently during which time he lived with his daughter Alice and her husband Roy. He had a spittoon and was not friendly to small child (me). Being German he liked his beer.

In 1930 census they owned the home on Abbott Road which show value of $7000 and they owned a radio as did most families on their street.
