William is stated to be a direct descendent of Edward I of England. (Book : History of Nantucket). Edward I succeeded his father in 1272. At the time of his father's death he was fighting the Saracens in Palestine for the recovery of Jerusalem. He returned to England, completed the conquest of Wales and subdued Scotland. He died in 1307.
