Notes for Sgt William Avery Morgan
William Avery Morgan (1754-1842) was placed on the pension roll of New London County, 1831, for service as sergeant in the Connecticut militia. He was at the battle of Bunker Hill. He was born in Groton; died in Lebanon, Conn.
Notes for Lydia (Spouse 1)
Can anyone tell me why Capt. William Avery Morgan, b Nov 24, 1754, and his wife Lydia Smith should have named their eighth child Denison (born Oct. 29, 1790, married Ursula Brainard)? I've looked through his ancestry - no Denisons that I can find, and of Lydia Smith, all that is said is that she was the daughter of Nathan Smith of Groton, and that she died Jan 4, 1804. They also had a Griswold and an Avery. Avery makes sense... not Griswold or Denison, though. Can anyone tell me (about) this Lydia Smith's background?
Thanks,
Nancy
