========
In 1973-1976 I served as the minister of the Congregational church in Orwell.
The book entitled, A History of the Town of Orwell, Vermont, compiled by Doris Bishop, published by The Town of Orwell in 1963 shows:
[p. 13] that 71 men took the Freeman's Oath and the Oath of Allegiance, apparently on 12 Dec 1787 when the town was organized [it had been chartered in 1763]. On the list there appears: Amos Palmer
[pp. 34-37] A Baptist church was founded in Orwell in 1787. After difficulties in 1843--perhaps affected by the Millerite movement--it finally disbanded sometime after 1850. No records available after 1852. [I lived in Orwell, but never saw where this church had been, to my recollection.]
A 1792 list of resident members of the Baptist church in Orwell includes the following:
Azariah Palmer
James Noble,
Amos Palmer,
Russell Noble,
Ann Noble,
Lucy Palmer,
Cynthia Palmer,
Electa Noble,
Joanna Palmer.
