Notes for Capt. James Gregg

He learned the business of tailor in Ayrshire, SCT before moving to Ireland where he married Janet Cargil. He was one of the original 16 settler of Londonderry, NH. having embarked in 1718 and being one of the number that wintered under so many privations and suffering at Cape Elizabeth, ME. Not long after the settlement he receives a captains commission and commanded the first company of soldiers ever raised in Londonderry.
